Tough but rewarding trip to the summit

Mount Fuji is 3776-meter (12,388-foot) high and the highest mountain in Japan. It is an active volcano last erupted in 1707. For its beauty and awe, it was considered a sacred place. There are still shrines on different parts of Fuji.

One can climb Mount Fuji in one day or in two days. One day climb is quite tough and you should start climbing early in the morning. The most popular course is to climb to near the summit in the afternoon, sleep in one of the huts, and climb to the summit before the dawn. The rising sun seen from the summit is one most moving view.

The easiest way to the summit is to climb from the 5th station. There are bus services from Shinjuku at the West of Tokyo.

The climbing season is between July and August. You can buy portable oxygen tanks and other equipment at the shops in the 5th station.
