Tsukiji
Watch tuna live auction at the fish market
If you wake up early, you should head to Tsukiji. Tukiji is the seafood wholesale market on Tokyo Bay. Restaurant owners, sushi chefs and supermarket buyers would come here every morning to join auction between around three and six.
Auctions take place in the inner market (‘jonai’). When going inside, be careful for vehicles and trucks carrying seafood. They are not expecting visitors and driving at full-speed.
At the outer market (‘jogai’) just outside, many shops and restaurants offer fresh seafood for visitors at a reasonable price during morning and afternoon.
You can feel how much Japanese love seafood by just walking around the area. Taste some sushi, and you would also understand why.
